Press reporting

Europe is investing billions in defence, but far too often, we invest separately instead of together. That makes us slower, drives up costs, and ultimately leaves us less secure. That is why, I am calling on member states to finally take decisive steps toward a European Defence Union together with colleagues from across party lines in the European Parliament.
People in Iran hope for the end of the regime—while at the same time fearing even greater repression as a result of the war. As the US, Israel, and Iran continue to escalate militarily, Europe must take a clear stand for de-escalation, international law, and support for Iranian civil society.
Protests in Iran are escalating dramatically. People across the country are taking to the streets – despite deadly violence, mass arrests, and targeted internet shutdowns. The regime is under massive pressure. Europe must not remain silent now.
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the defence industry has been making record profits – largely funded by public money. For us, it’s clear: more money must lead to more security, not more profits for companies and investors.
I became the target of an Iranian cyberattack in March. Now, the European Parliament has officially confirmed the incident. Here's what has happened since:
The Iranian regime targeted me and my office in the European Parliament with a cyber attack. These attacks are meant to silence critics – that’s exactly why I’m speaking out now:
During the civil war and economic crisis in Syria, Assad and his close network amassed billions in wealth — some of which now is frozen in Europe. We need a solution to make this stolen money available to Syrians for reconstruction.
Crises like cyberattacks, pandemics, and wars have become the new normal. Yet, the EU still lacks a sufficient and unified response. A debate initiated by the "Niinistö Report."
