Europe on the ground
Municipalities are the foundation of the European Union. This is where European policy has a direct impact, and when citizens experience the work of the EU on the ground, the European idea also takes root in their minds. The big goals, such as the European Green Deal, are implemented through concrete projects on the ground. Many municipal projects are only possible because of EU funding. And of course, Europe lives from the fact that many people and initiatives live it – with exchanges or cross-border projects or with debates on possibilities for improvement. I would like to support all of this and make it visible.
Transnational repression is growing, also in Europe. Yet, it is not a widely known phenomenon. I recently commissioned a study on how to address transnational repression more effectively which was discussed in the Committee on Foreign Affairs this week. Als Antwort auf eine Frage der wirtschaftspolitischen Sprecherin der bündnisgrünen Landtagsfraktion Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Jutta Wegner, hat Wirtschaftsminister Reinhard Meyer am 25. Januar im Landtag mitgeteilt, dass die Landesregierung im laufenden grenzüberschreitenden Umweltverträglichkeitsverfahren zum Containerterminal Swinemünde keinen Einspruch eingelegt hat. In the context of the planned container port in Swinoujscie, the former Polish Minister for Maritime Economy, Marek Gróbarczyk, announced in a number of Polish media that the construction of the container port's new fairway would be subsidised with EU funds. In response to my written quesdtion, the Commission replied that funds for parts of the container port project had neither been applied for nor approved. My comment:
