Three million people trapped in Idlib between the frontlines. The EU can do more against this proxy war in Syria – and it must. Because we cannot tolerate bombs on schools, hospitals and other civilian targets.

No one should turn a blind eye to the atrocities taking place in Idlib. War crimes must be documented to bring the perpetrators to justice later. Already now the EU should extend sanctions to those responsible in Russia and Turkey. This would give the EU a basis for justifying the extension of sanctions to those responsible in Russia and Turkey. Furthermore, our refugee policy must be adapted to the serious situation and reception quotas for the weakest should they ever make it out of Idlib.
