Now online – the newest edition of the #SHEcurity index was launched today. #SHEcurity (Twitter – Instagram) started last year. The idea behind the index: making visible to which extent women and other marginalised people are still underrepresented in the field of peace and security. At the same time, #SHEcurity raises awareness about members of these groups who are already today changing foreign and security policy. In 2021, #SHEcurity focuses on five key areas: Politics, Diplomacy, Military, Police and UN peacekeeping missions / EU missions of the Common Security and Defence Policy.
While EU and G20 countries were represented in 2020, we now also added all countries that have national action plans to implement the Women, Peace and Security agenda. In addition, the index includes the chapters “Beyond ‘women'” and “Beyond representation”, which look more closely at diversity in peace and security and systemic, structural and socio-cultural barriers respectively.
On the #SHEcurity page you can also find a PDF or an Excel document with the entire database.
