As part of a delegation of members of the Foreign Affairs and the Security and Defence Committees, I travelled to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv last Friday.
The aim of our visit was to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people and government, and to discuss the current situation.
In Kyiv, we met, among others, Oleksiy Reznikov (Ukrainian Minister of Defence), Andrii Yermak (Chief of Staff of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy), Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin, and the Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko. We also visited the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament. Topics during our talks included the provision of military equipment to Ukraine by the EU, as well as financial and humanitarian support.
The European Parliament supports the Ukrainian people and backs the country’s application for EU membership. At the same time, we advocate for effective sanctions against the Russian regime. Recently, the European Parliament declared Russia a state sponsor of terrorism.
