Sie hat für ein Ende der männlichen Vormundschaft gekämpft und sich mutig dem Autofahrverbot für Frauen widersetzt: die saudische Frauenrechtsaktivistin Lujain al-Hathloul. Im März 2018 wurde sie in den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten entführt und in Saudi-Arabien ins Gefängnis gesteckt, wo sie auch gefoltert wurde.
Heute ist die erste Anhörung vor Gericht für Lujain al-Hathloul. Was macht die EU in dem Fall? Darüber habe ich mit dem euobserver gesprochen:
“The EU, and especially the EU delegation in Riyadh, is pushing hard to be allowed to be able to attend the trials, now and in the past, but they were never allowed in.”
Aber:
“The EU could pressure Saudi Arabia more if the EU and the member states would be on the same line. This is not the case today as France and other countries are still selling arms to the Saudis despite repeated calls by the European parliament for a ban”.
