Stop the Executions and the Internet Blackout in Iran

While the world watches rockets and memes, the Iranian regime is killing its citizens in the shadow of the war. It is our responsibility to make this visible. The regime is becoming increasingly brutal: political prisoners are held in overcrowded prisons. The number of executions is rising. A nationwide internet blackout is cutting people off from information and public visibility.

At the same time, US and Israeli strikes are hitting not only military sites but also civilian infrastructure. They appear increasingly erratic. I addressed this again in plenary this week and clearly criticised Trump’s 15-point plan. Its core problem: the people of Iran are absent from it. It is about a quick deal to save face – not about sustainable change.

We have already seen how destructive this approach can be in Trump’s 2020 agreement with the Taliban. People in Afghanistan are still paying the price today. We must not repeat these mistakes.
