Hannah Neumann

Hannah Neumann is the peace and human rights spokesperson of "The Greens/European Free Alliance (EFA)" group, Vice-Chair of the Human Rights Committee (DROI), DROI coordinator for the group, member of the Committee on Security and Defence Policy (SEDE) and the Committee of inquiry to investigate the use of Pegasus and equivalent surveillance spyware (PEGA), substitute in the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) as well as head of the delegation for relations with the Arabian Peninsula. At the German Green party, she is also a member of the motions committee.

Hannah Neumann studied media sciences and peace and conflict studies, which is also the subject she chose for her PhD. Her academic career brought her to Ilmenau, Berlin, Manila and Monrovia. Before joining the European Parliament, she was a self-employed expert and consultant for peace projects, i.a. in projects for the United Nations, the Society for International Cooperation, the European Commission, the DGAP, GPPi and aid organizations. She advised ministries and non-governmental organizations on campaigns on anti-discrimination, promotion of democracy, climate protection on the local level and human rights. From 2013 until 2016, she worked as policy advisor in the German Bundestag.


Hannah Neumann, born on 03 April 1984 in Speyer, married, with three children, is an MEP for the Green/EFA Group.

  • 2013 - 2016: Research assistant and office manager of Tom Koenigs (MdB, The Greens, spokesperson for human rights) and Omid Nouripour (MdB, The Greens, spokesperson for foreign policy) in the German Bundestag.

  • 2008 - 2013: PhD in Politics and Peace and Conflict Studies, Free University of Berlin in cooperation with the University of Liberia and Notre Dame University Cotabato (Philippines)

  • 2009 - 2011: Project leader research project "Peacebuilding as a search for what is", University of Oldenburg, University of Liberia, University of Cotoba

  • 2008 - 2012: Master's degree in political science with a focus on international relations

  • 2005 - 2013: Freelance consultant, author, lecturer for World Vision, EC, UN, GiZ

  • 2002 - 2007: Diploma in Applied Media Studies, Technical University of Ilmenau

  • 2017: Direct candidate in Berlin-Lichtenberg for the Bundestag
