Moratorium on spyware: My plenary speech

The Pegasus scandal has clearly shown us that spyware is a dangerous tool. Existing control mechanisms have not been able to prevent the misuse of such software – even within the EU. The latest proof of this are revelations about cases of illegal espionage in Greek politics. A hearing on this has already taken place in the European Parliament.

Victims of such hacking attacks are left alone and governments block investigations under the pretext of “security interests.” For me it is therefore clear: We need a moratorium on the sale and use of spy software until these problems are solved.
