What role do human rights play in EU foreign policy? The EU should promote the fundamental values enshrined in the EU Treaties around the world – but far too often there is a gap between the rhetoric of EU leaders and actual action on the ground. Can this gap be bridged so that we put respect for human rights, equality and social justice at the heart of foreign policy? In the Green European Journal, I explained that change will not happen overnight. We can only make progress through continuous effort, compromise and dialogue.
