Heroines in the Crosshairs of a Brutal Regime

Pakhshan Azizi and Verisheh Moradi embody courage and humanity. In the darkest of times, they dared the unthinkable: saving lives, defending dignity, and offering hope. Pakhshan assisted the wounded and displaced in Rojava, while Verisheh fought on the frontlines in Kobane against ISIS. In a just world, they would be honoured as heroines. In Iran, they face death.

Two Women: Symbols of Courage and Resistance

In my speech, I made clear: for the first time in years, the regime is once again threatening to execute female political prisoners. A calculated act of intimidation, a direct attack on Women, Life, Freedom. But those who try to crush courage with fear only expose their own weakness. Because nothing terrifies a dictatorship more than people who refuse to be silenced.

Putting Pressure on the Regime - Not Just in Words, but in Action

In the European Parliament, we have passed a resolution on my initiative. It calls for the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation. A long-overdue measure against the regime’s primary instrument of repression. Targeted sanctions must strike the regime at its most vulnerable points, and those responsible for torture and executions must be held accountable. At the same time, we must take a firm stand and actively push for the release of political prisoners. It was particularly important to me to once again highlight the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd, a German citizen, sentenced to death after a show trial. His murder is yet another clear demonstration that the Islamic regime knows no limits when it comes to eliminating opponents and spreading fear. Words are not enough. Political pressure is needed.
