Iranian civil society has a strong voice – listen to it! My plenary speech on the situation in Iran

This week, the European Parliament discussed the human rights situation in Iran. The country’s regime has been oppressing Iranian citizens for decades – but civil society is active and stands up to repression.

Groups such as “Fridays for Future Iran” or the Iranian #MeToo movement show great courage every day in their fight against oppressive government measures.

The message of my plenary speech was: As long as the people of Iran oppose the regime day after day, it is our duty as the EU to support their cause and protect them
