For more than 200 days, German-Iranian citizen Nahid Taghavi has been imprisoned in Iran – in solitary confinement. The 66-year-old is one of the country’s more than two dozen foreigners and dual nationals in prison. Iran arrests these people to exert political pressure: there is even open talk of using them for a prisoner exchange. In this way, these people become bargaining chips. In “heute journal”, a news broadcast of Germany’s public TV channel ZDF, I have made it clear: Iran’s actions are an outrage by any international standards, they are highly cynical. We must put pressure on Iran to put an end to these methods!
